The Road through Tulum |
The first control point of our tour was the ruins of Tulum, it is 81 mi from the center of Cancun’s south. The speed limit within the city was 56 mi / h; the speed bumps blocked road often. Highway divided by forest belt outside the town, and the speed limit jumped to 69 mi / h. People go faster usually, about 87-93 mi / h, but the police do not catch for speed. We maneuvered between caravans of tour buses until the Tulum. People who took the tour in Cancun realize at some point that it would be nice to visit the Mayan ruins. Then we turned into the parking place of Tulum, cost of parking is 40 pesos. Tulum ruins refer to the period of decline of the Mayan civilization. Tallest building is El Castillo on the steep bank of the Caribbean. A snow-white beach with a trailing wooden staircase is located between it and the Templo del Dios del Viento. You can even swim with a view of the ruins. The temple is facing towards the sea, and decorated with stone carvings. Bypassing the territory of the excavation, we went back to the car to continue our Belize adventure tours. The road south to the town of Felipe (it is the first large gas station from Cancun) ran through the forest. We went for tour bus in almost complete darkness until the next village of Limones. The road widened to three lanes in each direction after the Limonesom. We were asked to indicate us the direction to the boundary in the border city of Chetumal (5 mi from the border of Belize). The first booth on border is Mexican, where you need to stamp the passports to travel. We went through this stage without any problems (the border guards did not speak English, so prepare your dictionary). We got into the car again, crossed a bridge and came to Belize border guards. We had to leave the car at the curb, pulled out all the things and documents and went to the security screening in a large hangar on the left. The border guard looked at our documents, checked the insurance, VIN-number on the car, inspected the luggage and put a stamp on our passports. Welcome to Belize! |
